SUMMARY
The Committee adopted the Department’s Housing Plan Report with a few minor amendments. They also discussed and adopted minutes of a previous meeting, their Committee Programme and Annual Report. The Fire Conference to be held on March 15 2005 would be included in the Programme.

MINUTES
The Chairperson reminded Members about an invitation to the African Conference to which a delegation had been sent. A report would be made available.

Mr G Schneemann (ANC) suggested that Members review expenditures for the current financial year before the budget briefing. He also proposed that the Department’s report be slotted into the Committee programme.

The Committee’s Annual Report included work covered by the Committee and Members agreed that the work reflected was in line with their mandate.

Ms N Ngele (ANC) suggested that the Chairperson’s overview should include pilot projects in all the provinces. She also requested that the report include expenditures within provinces.

Mr A Steyn (DA) queried why information from previous committees was included in the current Annual Report. The Chairperson responded that Parliament had planned its reports from January to December 2004.

Mr A Steyn (DA) said the date of appointment for the Chairperson reflected her initial appointment in March 2002, but that the dates of appointment for Members were listed as 2004, even if Members had joined the Committee before that time. He wanted the dates of appointment to reflect the Members’ initial appointment.

Mr G Schneemann (ANC) suggested that Members should pass the report on condition that corrections were made. Reports should include expenditures broken down into different activities. The Chairperson agreed that expenditures should be more specific. The report was adopted.
