Election of Committee Chairperson

The Committee met for the election of its Chairperson. The Committee Secretary conducted the process of the election of the Committee Chairperson and Members elected Ms T Mahambehlala (ANC) as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on International Relations
Meeting report
Election of Chairperson
Mr Lubabalo Sigwela, Committee Secretary, welcomed all present in the meeting. He said Rule 158 of the National Assembly Rules provides that the Committee needs to elect one of its Members to be the Chairperson of the Committee. The process of electing a Committee Chairperson is as follows: A member of the Committee will nominate another Member as Chairperson. Another Member will second that nomination. If there are no objections to that nomination then the new Chairperson will take his/her sit as a Chairperson of the Committee.
Mr T Mpanza (ANC) nominated Ms T Mahambehlala (ANC) as Chairperson of the Committee.
Ms Gwenya-Mabila (ANC) seconded the nomination of Ms Mahambehlala as Chairperson of the Committee.
There were no objections to the nomination of Ms Mahambehlala as Chairperson of the Committee.
The Committee elected Ms Mahambehlala as the Committee Chairperson.
Ms Mahambehlala thanked all Members for electing her. She hoped that Members would have confidence in her.
The meeting was adjourned.
