Report of the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry on the appointment of the chairperson of the board for the National Lotteries Commission, dated 19 May 2017:
 

The Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry, having received the request from the Minister of Trade and Industry (the Minister), dated 15 February 2017 and 14 March 2017, that the relevant Assembly committee recommends a suitable person for appointment as chairperson of the board of the National Lotteries Commission in terms of section 3(3) of the Lotteries Act, 1997 (Act No. 57 of 1997) (hereinafter referred to as “the Act”), reports as follows:

 

The Minister invited interested parties to nominate persons suitable for appointment as chairperson of the board of the National Lotteries Commission as contemplated in section 3(3) of the Act (see Government Gazette, Notice 39324 of 2015).

 

The Department of Trade and Industry submitted CVs of three candidates for the position of chairperson of the board of the National Lotteries Commission for the Committee’s consideration:

 

1. Mr W Huma
2. Mr A Mawela
3. Prof N Nevhutanda.

 

The Committee interviewed the nominated candidates on 12 May 2017.

 

On 19 May 2017, after deliberations, the Committee recommends that the following candidate be appointed as chairperson of the board of the National Lotteries Commission for the remaining period as prescribed by section 3(4) of the Act:

 

Prof Ntshengedzeni Alfred Nevhutanda.
