Researcher & Communications Officer

 

The Parliamentary Monitoring Group monitors parliamentary committees, with the purpose of making them accessible, to enable all sectors of society to follow parliamentary proceedings, intervene in the policy and law-making process and monitor committee oversight of government entities.


We are looking to hire a dynamic and energetic individual to join our small team.


Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualise, manage & produce high-quality research reports, op-eds, presentations, submissions, infographics and other written material
  • Monitor the latest trends, best practices, and emerging research and news related to Parliament
  • Act as PMG’s direct liaison with the media, including managing all press and broadcast engagements 
  • Develop, liaise and maintain partnerships with stakeholder groups, including Parliament, civil society, and government departments and entities
  • Respond to public queries
  • Participate and present at workshops/events on behalf of PMG
  • Assist in developing strategic vision and direction for the organisation in conjunction with the Director and PMG team
  • Capturing and maintaining data relating to your areas of focus 
  • Supporting the organisation in achieving its objectives

Requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen with a university qualification (minimum Honours, Masters preferable) in politics, public policy, law or another relevant field.
  • Three years related experience 
  • Proven research and writing skills
  • Proven media skills
  • An understanding of and interest in Parliament and South African politics
  • Experience in the civil society space is preferred
  • Willingness to travel
  • Strong work ethic, administrative skills, time-management skills and the ability to work well with and collaborate with others 
  • Basic IT skills, including skills in data visualisation

 

This is a full-time post. We are a Cape Town-based organisation

12-month contract. Renewable
