Meeting report

HEALTH PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE
28 September 2001
NATIONAL HEALTH LABORATORY SERVICE AMENDMENT BILL: VOTING

Chairperson:
Dr. Nkomo

SUMMARY
The Committee unanimously passed the National Health Laboratory Service Amendment Bill as drafted. The formalisation of the Bill was, however, suspended to await the formal resolution of the NCOP which had not been tabled before the Committee.

MINUTES
The Chair informed the Committee that the National Health Laboratory Service Amendment Bill was still being processed by the NCOP. He said that technically, therefore, the Bill was not properly before the NA Committee.

The Chair said that the Committee had two options in the circumstances. One, to pass the Bill and suspend the formalisation until the NCOP had run its process or in the second option, defer debate on the Bill until the NCOP is finished with its process.

Members were in favour of the first option upon which the Chair tabled the Bill for debate. Members agreed with the Chair that the Bill was straightforward and that there was no need for the State Law Adviser to explain it to the Committee.

Members unanimously agreed with the entire Bill and passed a motion to adopt it. The Chair then read the motion of desirability, which was unanimously agreed. The Bill was passed without amendments. The meeting was then adjourned.
