Study tour report
The Chairperson noted that the tour was a fact-finding mission on the maintenance of the state property. The information that has been acquired can be used in helping government departments on how to maintain state property. He confirmed that all committee members had a copy of the report.
Mr Chikane (ANC) stated that the report had many grammatical errors which must be corrected. The Committee attempted to do this in the meeting but after some time, members were still not satisfied. They agreed that even though all members agree in principle with the content of the report, they cannot adopt it as it must be properly corrected. It will adopted at the following meeting.
Media release on Kokstad Prison
After some discussion, the Committee decided to consult the officials from the Departments of Public Works and Correctional Services to acquire necessary information in preparation for a proper discussion as they cannot discuss the issue on the basis of one media article. All parties were asked to take the issue back to their study groups.
