Election of Chairperson

Meeting report

Introduction
Ms Phumla Nyamza, Secretary of the Portfolio Committee on Land Reform and Rural Development, welcomed the members and announced that the agenda focuses on electing the committee chairperson. Before proceeding with the election, she introduced key support staff of the Portfolio Committee, including the Committee Assistant, Committee Researcher, and the Executive Secretary to the chairperson.

Election of Chairperson
Secretary Nyamza explained the procedural requirement, citing Rule 158(1), which mandates the committee to elect one of its members as chairperson. She then called for nominations. Mr R Adams (ANC) proposed Ms T Shiviti (ANC) as chairperson, seconded by Mr M Mrara (ANC).

No further nominations were received.

The Committee Secretary asked Ms Shiviti if she accepted the nomination. Ms Shiviti accepted and Ms Nyamza congratulated her on her election.

Chairperson’s Remarks
The newly elected Chairperson, Ms T Shiviti (ANC), greeted the committee members and expressed gratitude for their trust in electing her as chairperson.
