Meeting report

Opening comments:

The Chairperson welcomed everyone on the platform. He mentioned that the purpose of the meeting was to adopt the reviewed legacy report which summarised what the Committee had done over the last five years, and also gave recommendations to the incoming Seventh Parliament. All had read and reviewed the report, so they would only adopt it today.

He noted the absentee with apology.

He then called for the draft legacy report to be flighted in large font so they could go over it page by page. The Committee Secretariat flighted the draft legacy report.

Committee Legacy Report

The legacy report was reviewed page by page.

The Chairperson said this was a summary of the Committee’s actions, and there were recommendations for the incoming Parliament.

The draft legacy report was thus adopted.

The Chairperson thanked the support staff for their assistance with the legacy report.

Committee minutes

The minutes of 15 March 2024, and 20 March 2024 were adopted.

The Chairperson noted that there were no announcements, except to acknowledge that this was their last meeting. He profusely thanked the communication staff for their contribution with the meetings. They began with difficult conditions but they eventually readjusted to the new norm. He wished that all would be safe during the Easter holiday, and he advised that they travel during the day rather than the night.

Mr A Sarupen (DA) said the Chairperson was a true democrat, despite all the disagreements, he still respected his differing opinions. He hoped that they would continue to stay in contact.

Ms T Tobias (ANC) mentioned that this was a temporal inconvenience, they would not say goodbye.

Committee Members shared well wishes.

The meeting was adjourned.
