Postponed: Response by National Treasury on the submissions to the Public Procurement Bill
Meeting report
The Chairperson extended a warm welcome to everyone attending the Select Committee. He allowed National Treasury (NT) to give a presentation to the Committee.
Response by National Treasury on the submissions to the Public Procurement Bill
Mr Willie Mathebula, Chief Procurement Officer, NT, was present and proceeded to lead the presentation of Treasury’s response to public comments on the Public Procurement Bill [B18B-2023].
However, technical difficulties, such as the presentation freezing, plagued the proceedings, leading to the decision to adjourn the meeting.
Mr D Ryder (DA, Gauteng) expressed frustration over the timing of the presentation, citing its arrival in their inboxes only two hours before the meeting. He criticised the lack of preparation and the perceived lack of conviction in the presentation's content. He also highlighted the internet challenges, suggesting they may hinder both the delivery and reception of the presentation's content.
The Chairperson responded, acknowledging the frustration expressed but urged against individualising the issue. He emphasised the importance of respecting the time and effort of the stakeholders present. Ultimately, he proposed closing the meeting, considering the prevailing challenges. He apologised to stakeholders for any inconvenience caused and expressed hopes for a more successful meeting in the future. Plans were made to reschedule the meeting, likely in the evenings to accommodate everyone's schedules.
The meeting was adjourned.
