VOTING ON AMENDMENT: ELECTORAL LAWS AMENDMENT BILL

SUMMARY
The Chairperson informed Committee members that State Law Advisors had advised that the amendment proposed by the Democratic Alliance could not be passed without the Bill being sent back to the National Assembly Portfolio Committee for further consideration as it constituted a substantive change. The DA amendment, to which all Parties had agreed at a previous meeting, proposed that in the Bill's Long Title, the term "handicapped voters" be replaced with "voters with disabilities". In the interest of time, the Chairperson suggested withdrawal of that amendment from the Bill. The Committee members unanimously agreed.
The meeting was adjourned within ten minutes.
