Meeting Summary

The Committee considered the final mandates from the provincial legislatures on the Protection, Promotion, Development and Management of Indigenous Knowledge Bill. Eight provincial legislatures submitted their mandates, with all supporting the bill.

Meeting report

The Chairperson welcomed everyone and asked everyone to introduce themselves.

She read out apologies.

The Chairperson indicated that the meeting will deal with the final mandates from the provincial legislatures on the Protection, Promotion, Development and Management of Indigenous Knowledge Bill.

A Member asked if he can be excused early.

The Chairperson indicated that the meeting will finish early because there must be a quorum. She would not ask Members to give inputs and they will deal with the agenda immediately.

The agenda is the final mandates from the provinces. The Committee had received eight mandates. Only North West had not submitted their mandate but they will be sending a voting Member to that House because they had some problems with the sittings.

Protection, Promotion, Development and Management of Indigenous Knowledge Bill [B6-2016]

The Chairperson said that the committee is meeting to deal with final mandate from provincial legislatures. North West did not send the mandate; will send the mandate to the house later. Following are the provinces that sent their mandates.

Eastern Cape legislature

The Chairperson read out that the province endorsed the Bill with no change.

Free State Legislature

The delegate indicated that the province voted in favour of the Bill.

Gauteng Legislature

The delegate reported that the province supported the principle and detail of the Bill.

Kwazu-Natal Legislature

The delegate indicated that the province supported the Bill.

Limpopo Legislature

The delegate voted in favour of the Bill.

Mpumalanga Legislature

The Chairperson read out that the legislature supported the Bill.

North Cape Legislature 

The delegate was not present but in support of the Bill without amendment

Western Cape Legislature

The delegate voted in favour of the Bill

The Chairperson noted that the Committee had passed the bill.

The Chairperson said the agenda of the day was very brief. She joked that it was the shortest meeting. She asked whether there were any questions or comments. There were no comments or questions from the floor.

She thanked everyone for their time.

The meeting was adjourned.
