Election of Chairperson
Ms Ntombe Mbuqe, Committee Secretary, informed Members that they needed to elect a Chairperson in accordance with the rules of Parliament.

Mr B Fihla (ANC) proposed Mr C Burgess (ANC) and the Committee unanimously seconded the motion.

Committee Programme
The newly appointed Chairperson noted that the meeting would be brief as Members had to attend the debate in the House on the State of the Nation Address.

The Chairperson briefly went through the draft quarterly programme and highlighted the role of the Committee during the upcoming public hearings on the General Laws Amendment Bill [B25 – 2011]. He indicated that the Committee should try to conclude its work according to the deadline.

The adoption of the programme was shelved for a later date.
