Meeting report

Consideration of Draft Committee Report on Millennium Development Goals
Ms D Nhlengethwa (ANC) said that the report should include conclusive numbers from the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs on the Community Work Programme (CWP).

Mr J Matshoba (ANC) agreed that the report should have clarity on the CWP and its role in providing employment.

Ms M Wenger (DA) commented that the report should make stronger recommendations about the CWP. The existing programme did not do enough to develop skills.

Ms W Nelson (ANC) highlighted that the report’s recommendations should include mention of the Department’s targets and achievements.

Ms Nhlengethwa said that the recommendations should be specific and not general.

The Chairperson replied that specific information could be found in the Department’s MDG report.

Ms Nelson said the recommendations should include mention of the Department helping municipalities to service their debt to the government.

Ms Wenger proposed that the report be approved with amendments which the Committee members could email to the Committee Secretary.

The Chairperson agreed with Ms Wenger’s suggestion and told Members to email suggestions for further recommendations to be added to the report to the Committee staff.

Consideration of Draft Committee Programme for the Third Term
