The Committee considered and adopted its Report on the Progress made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Members concerns included the need to review legislation on the protection of vulnerable workers. The Committee also approved two outstanding minutes.

Committee Report on Progress made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG)
The Chairperson went through the report page by page and invited the Members to comment and make changes.
Mr A Williams (ANC) pointed out that at bullet point 2.2, the first line should specify that the shortfalls should be rectified. The Department should enforce Employment Equity and Compensation fund in the labour market.
Mr I Ollis (DA) pointed out that domestic workers do not qualify for the Compensation Fund.
Mr E Nyekemba (ANC) suggested the legislative review to accommodate vulnerable workers, such as domestic and farm workers.
Mr Ollis moved for adoption and Mr Nyekemba seconded the motion, the report was adopted with amendments.
Outstanding Minutes
The Chairperson tabled two outstanding minutes for consideration. The minutes were dated 25 May and 31 May 2011.
The minutes were approved without any changes.
Other Business
The Chairperson informed the Committee the United Nations Women organization had asked for a meeting with the Committee to look at sexual harassment on the workplace. He directed Members suggestions for the proposed meeting to the Committee Secretary.
Mr Boinamo pointed out that the Members should also inform each other about the personal issues such as loss in the family.
The Chairperson said that such things could fall under announcements and correspondence.
