Meeting report
Adoption of Committee’s Second-Term Programme
The Chairperson opened the floor for Members to discuss the draft programme.
Mr J Gunda (ID; Northern Cape) sought clarity as to whether the programme clashed with the National Council of Provinces (NCOPs) programme and urged that this should be avoided.
Mr A Matila (ANC; Gauteng) reminded the Committee not to repeat the previous mistake of postponing oversight visits until the last minute. In addition, he agreed with Mr Gunda’s suggestion that the Committee’s programme should correspond with the NCOPs programme.
Mr D Bloem (COPE; Free State) pointed out that the dates allocated for oversight visits clashed with the debates on the budget votes.
Mr Gunda suggested that Members sacrifice the constituency week for oversight visits
Mr Bloem disagreed with Mr Gunda and reminded Members that individual parties had work to do during the constituency week.
The Chairperson proposed that the Committee adopt the programme, noting that further amendments could follow at a later stage.
The programme was duly adopted with amendments.
The meeting was adjourned.
