Standing Committee on Appropriations

The Standing and Select Committees on Appropriations invite you to make written and/or oral submissions on the 2023 Eskom Debt Relief Amendment Bill.

The said Bill was tabled with the 2023 Medium Term Budget Policy Statement by the Minister of Finance on 1 November 2023. The Money Bills and Related Matters Amendment Act, No. 13 of 2018 requires Parliament to conduct public hearings and to report on the Bill.

The 2023 Eskom Debt Relief Amendment Bill (the Bill) seeks to amend the 2023 Eskom Debt Relief Act, so as to:
• provide for the payment of interest by Eskom on amounts advanced as a loan;
• provide for power for the Minister of Finance to reduce the amounts for the requirements for Eskom in the event of non-compliance with conditions; and to provide for matters incidental thereto.

Joint virtual public hearings on the Bill will be conducted by the Standing and Select Committees on Appropriations on Friday, 1 December 2023.
