There will be a brief lull in Parliament this week, with the National Assembly in recess from today until 5 October.

During this period NA lawmakers will be performing constituency work. They have a duty to: be available to the public, help solve problems and report back to their constituents on what is happening in Parliament.

Meanwhile, business in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will proceed as the House is in session until the end of September.

From Tuesday to Friday, the NCOP, in partnership with the South African Local Government Association, is scheduled to embark on a Local Government Week under the theme, “Ensuring Capable and Financially Sound Municipalities”. View Full programme. 

Delegates will interact with stakeholders to discuss and reflect on issues affecting local government with the aim of improving service delivery.

The programme is slated to feature, among others: Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Minister of Finance Mr Tito Mboweni, Auditor-General of South Africa Mr Kimi Makwetu, and SALGA President, Councillor Ms Thembi Nkadimeng.

This four-day event will culminate in a plenary session where lawmakers debate Local Government Week Outcomes.

The Women’s Charter Review continues on Friday, 11 September. The decision to undertake a nationwide review process was taken during the Women’s Parliament held in August 2019, to cover all nine provinces over the next 12 months. The provincial roadshow programme will take place with Mopani and Sekhukhune Districts based in Limpopo.
