Public Service and Administration
Report of the Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration on the International Human Resource Management Conference 19 – 20 April 2007, dated 22 August 2007:
1. Introduction
The Public Service Commission and the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) co-hosted the International Human Resource Management Conference. Participants from across the world including South Africans attended the Conference. The theme of the Conference was: Building Public Sector Human Resource Capacity in a Developmental State.
The objectives of the conference were:
· To share knowledge and insights between South African Human Resource Management Practitioners and their international counterparts on contemporary challenges facing human resource management in a developmental state.
· To provide an opportunity for conversation and learning outside the paradigms created by institutionalized human resources management approaches.
· To create a platform for the establishment of partnerships locally, regionally and internationally.
· To promote good human resource management and career development practices to maximize human potential.
Delegation
The Portfolio Committee was represented by Hon. I F Julies, MP (DA).
3. Observations
The focus of the conference was on challenges in Public Sector Recruitment.
