Report of the Portfolio Committee on Transport on the Transport Appeal Tribunal Amendment Bill [B 8D – 2020] (National Assembly – sec 76), dated 19 November 2024.

 

The Portfolio Committee on Transport, having considered the Transport Appeal Tribunal Amendment Bill [B 8D – 2020] (National Assembly – sec 76), amended by the National Council of Provinces and referred to the Committee, reports that it has agreed to the Bill.

 

The Committee further reports:

 

1. The Transport Appeal Tribunal Amendment Bill [B 8 – 2020] (“the Bill”), introduced to the National Assembly (“the Assembly”) on 28 May 2020, was considered by the Portfolio Committee on Transport in the 6^th Parliament. The Committee amended the Bill and reported accordingly to the Assembly.
2. The amended Bill, [B 8B – 2020], was passed by the Assembly and transmitted to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) for concurrence on 7 March 2023.
3. Following consideration and engagement on the Bill, the Transport Appeal Tribunal Amendment Bill [B 8D – 2020] was amended by the NCOP and returned to the Assembly for concurrence on 16 May 2024, but was not considered by the Portfolio Committee on Transport at the time because the term of the Assembly had ended, and the Bill lapsed on 21 May 2024 (five days after referral). The Transport Appeal Tribunal Amendment Bill [B 8D – 2020] was revived on 25 July 2024.
4. The Committee considered the amendments to the Bill on 10 September 2024 and agreed to the Bill.
5. The Committee adopted its report on the Bill on 19 November 2024.
6. The Committee recommends that the National Assembly pass the Bill.
