Report of the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development on the Draft Notice and Schedule determining the rate, with effect from 1 April 2024, at which salaries, allowances and benefits are payable to Constitutional Court judges and other judges annually, for approval by Parliament in terms of section 2(4) of the Judges’ Remuneration and Conditions of Employment Act, 2001 (Act No 47 of 2001), dated 13 November 2024.

 

The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development, having considered the Draft Notice and Schedule determining the rate, with effect from 1 April 2024, at which salaries, allowances and benefits are payable to Constitutional Court judges and other judges annually, for approval by Parliament in terms of section 2(4) of the Judges’ Remuneration and Conditions of Employment Act, 2001 (Act No 47 of 2001), reports as follows:

 

  1. The Committee notes that the Independent Commission for the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers (Independent Commission) recommended a 2.5% increase for all public office bearers, including judges, for the financial year 2024/25.

 

  1. The Committee notes further that President, having considered the Independent Commission’s recommendation and the serious economic situation of the country, has proposed a 2.5% salary increment for Constitutional Court judges and other judges, with effect from 1 April 2024.

 

  1. The Committee, therefore, having considered the Draft Notice and Schedule determining the rate, with effect from 1 April 2024, at which salaries, allowances and benefits are payable to Constitutional Court judges and other judges annually, tabled for approval in terms of section 2(4) of the Judges’ Remuneration and Conditions of Employment Act 2001, (Act No 47 of 2001) and referred to it, recommends that the House approves the Draft Notice and Schedule.
