Second Report of the Committee on Public Accounts on the unauthorised expenditure of the Department of Water Affairs dated 03 February 2016.
 

Background

 

The Committee on Public Accounts (the Committee) considered and heard evidence on the unauthorised expenditure of the Department of Water Affairs (the Department) in relation to previous years and reports as follows:

 

The Committee notes that the Department incurred unauthorised expenditure of R3.782 million during the 2005/06 financial year.

The over expenditure resulted from inadvertent breaches of expenditure limits on a research study, purchases of goods and services and regional service council levies.

 

Recommendation

 

The Committee recommends that the unauthorised expenditure of R3.782 million be approved by Parliament, as a direct charge against the National Revenue Fund since there is no evidence of impropriety, wasteful expenditure on losses to the state.
