Report of the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs on the petition for 12-month suspension of certain immigration provisions to conduct regulatory impact assessment, submitted in terms of National Assembly Rule 312 (Mr. J Vos), dated 8 September 2015.
 

The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs, having considered the above-mentioned petition, referred to it on 22nd October 2014, reports as follows:

 

The Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs met on 1st September 2015 to consider the petition. The petition was referred to the Committee for consideration and report. The Committee noted that certain sections of the immigration regulations were suspended from 1st October 2014 to 1st June 2015.

 

Since the implementation of the regulations on 1st June 2015, certain events inclusive of the establishment of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on Immigration Regulations led by the Deputy President to inquire into the unintended consequences of these regulations have taken place.

 

The Committee recommends that the petition should be forwarded to the recently established IMC on Immigration Regulations for further consideration.
