Progress report of the Portfolio Committee on Communications on the filling of three vacancies on the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) Board, dated 24 March 2015
 

The Portfolio Committee on Communications, having considered the two letters from the President of the Republic:-

 

1.         informing the Assembly that Media Development and Diversity Agency Board member Dr René Alicia Smith had tendered her resignation in terms of section 6(1)(b) of the Media Development and Diversity Agency Act, 2002 (No 14 of 2002) and the term of office of Mr Phenyo Nonqane would expire on 13 January 2015 in terms of section 8(2) of the Act; and

 

requesting the Assembly to commence with the process of recommending, in accordance with the principles set out in section 4(1)(b) of the Act, suitable candidates to fill these vacancies;

 

2.         informing the Assembly that Media Development and Diversity Agency board member Mr Robert Dangisa Nkuna, appointed until 22 January 2016, had tendered his resignation in terms of section 6(1)(b) of the Media Development and Diversity Agency Act, 2002 (No 14 of 2002); and

 

requesting the Assembly to commence with the process of recommending, in accordance with the principles set out in section 4(1)(b) of the Act, a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy for the unexpired portion of the term of office, reports as follows:

 

The Committee advertised the call for nomination of persons to serve on the MDDA Board. The Committee received 46 nominations and subsequently shortlisted the following 13 candidates: Ms Pearl Ncamisile Maseko; Mr Yengwayo Wilberforce Kutta; Mr Keabetswe Modimoeng; Mr Thamsanqa Isaac Ntenteni; Adv Kwena Thomas Ntsewa; Ms Belese Nobubele Majova; Ms Palesa Kadi; Mr Radithoana Solomon Motsepe; Mr Mahmood Abdulla Sanglay; Mr Olwethu Sipuka; Dr William Peter Rowland; Ms Vuyelwa Vivian Mdazana; and Mr Jabulane Blose.

 

The interviews are scheduled to take place on 31 March 2015 and 1 April 2015.
