Progress report of the Portfolio Committee on Communications on the filling of a vacancy on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Board, dated 26 February 2014

The Portfolio Committee on Communications, having considered the request by the President of the Republic to the National Assembly to recommend a candidate, in accordance with the provisions of the Broadcasting Act, 1999 (Act No 4 of 1999), to fill a vacancy for the unexpired portion of the period for which the vacating member had been appointed, reports as follows:

The Committee invited the public to nominate a person for consideration and recommendation to the President for appointment to the Board by means of advertisements in the print media.

The Committee received 11 nominations and subsequently shortlisted the following five candidates:

1. Ms Leah Thabisile Khumalo

2. Ms Vuyelwa Qinga-Vika

3. Mr Chose Andrew Kenilworth Choeu

4. Ms Ntombenhle Khathwane

5. Mr Rammutlana Boelie Sekgala .

Interviews are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 4 March 2014 at Parliament.
