Report of the Portfolio Committee on Communications on the filling of a vacancy on the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) Board, dated 11 March 2014

The Portfolio Committee on Communications, having considered the request by the Minister in The Presidency: Performance Monitoring and Evaluation as well as Administration to the National Assembly to recommend a candidate, in terms of section 4 of the MDDA Act (Act No 14 of 2002), to fill a vacancy that arose due to the expiry of the term of office of Ms Nothando Migogo as a member of the Board on 31 December 2013, referred to it for consideration and report (see ATC 23 January 2014), reports as follows:

The Committee invited the public to nominate a person for consideration and recommendation to the President for appointment to the Board by means of advertisements in the print media.

The Committee received 19 nominations and subsequently shortlisted the following five candidates: (i) Dr Adele Moodly ; (ii) Mr Ratha Ramatlhape ; (iii) Ms Nokuzola Ehrens ; (iv) Ms Xoliswa Daku ; and (v) Mr Jimmy Manyi .

The Committee interviewed the above-mentioned candidates on 6 and 7 March 2014 in an open meeting at Parliament.

The Committee deliberated and recommends that Mr Jimmy Manyi be appointed to fill the vacancy in the MDDA Board.
