QUESTION 1945. Mr J Selfe (DA) to ask the Minister of Labour:

(a) How many (i) international flights and (ii) domestic flights were undertaken by her using (aa) military aircraft, (bb) chartered aircraft or (cc) commercial aircraft during the period 1 April 2010 up to the latest specified date for which information is available, (b) what class did she travel and (c) what amount did her department spend with regard to each specified flight? NW2183E

REPLY 1945. The Minister of Labour replied:

I have not used military aircraft or chartered flight. By April 2011, I was not yet appointed as the Minister.

The trips undertaken were based on the government programme particularly International.Domestic flight relates to both government and personal therefore information will be sent to Leader of Government Business

QUESTION 1911

1911. Mr D J Stubbe (DA) to ask the Minister of Labour:

Whether she has employed a ministerial special advisor; if so, (a) what are the duties of the advisor, (b) at which post level was the appointment made, (c) what is the salary level of the advisor, (d) what is the duration of the employment contract entered into with the advisor and (e) why was it necessary to appoint this advisor? REPLY:

The Minister of Labour has not yet employed a Ministerial Special Advisor.

PARLIAMENTARY QUESTION NO:1873 NW2111E

Mr. I M Ollis (DA) to ask the Minister of Labour:

(1) Whether any members of the State Information Technology Agency (Sita) are employed by the Compensation Fund; if so, how (a) many and (b) much is each person paid per annum;

(2) Whether any employees of the Compensation Fund have been suspended since 2009; if so, what (a) have been the legal costs involved in resolving these suspensions and (b) has been the outcome of the suspensions in each case? NW2111E

MINISTER OF LABOUR RESPONSE:

(1) The Compensation Fund has two officials from the State Information Technology Agency who provide telecommunication and project management services to the Fund.

(a) Telecommunication services involve technical support and enhancements, system configuration, management of the telephone management system etc.

The cost per annum is R412 785

(b) Project Management services involve managing all projects of the Compensation Fund, including the integrated claims management, the financial management and security project.

The cost per annum is R1 372 800 per annum

(2) Whether any employees of the Compensation Fund have been suspended since 2009; if so, what (a) have been the legal costs involved in resolving these suspensions and (b) has been the outcome of the suspensions in each case? NW2111E

(2) Yes, in 2009, eight officials were suspended, in 2010, twelve were suspended and 2011, two were suspended. The total amount of officials suspended is 22.

(a) There were no legal costs involved

(b) In 2009, 5 suspensions resulted in dismissal and 3 resulted in 3 months leave without pay. In 2010, 7 suspensions resulted in dismissal, 3 resulted as acquitted and 1 resulted in 2 months without pay. In 2011, 2 suspensions are pending outcome results.

QUESTION 1818

1818. Mr P van Dalen (DA) to ask the Minister of Labour:

(1) How many of the workers at each of the laboratories at the (a) Pelindaba, (b) Vaalputs, (c) Koeberg and (d) Ithuba installations (i) have applied for occupational health compensation since the date of inception, (ii) how many applications were received in each year, (iii) how many applications were successful and (iv) how many applicants received compensation;

(2) what amount in workmen's compensation has been paid out to workers at each of the abovementioned installations (a) in total and (b) per claimant;

(3) (a) what is the name of each person who received workmen's compensation, (b) at which installation did they work and (c) what total amount have they been paid? NW2053E

THE MINISTER OF LABOUR RESPOND

(1) Engagement concerning this query was done, and the following transpired.

(a) All four companies (a) Pelindaba, (b) Vaalputs, (c) Koeberg and (d) Ithuba Installations are not registered with Compensation Fund, Rand Mutual or FEMA.

There is a possibility that the names provided are not correct or the companies are not using them as trading names.

i. Information required in (i) to (iv) is not available as the employers are not registered and information is only available for employers who are registered with one of the above-mentioned Funds.
