QUESTION 135

DATE OF PUBLICATION OF QUESTION PAPER: 16/08/2016

(QUESTION PAPER 19 OF 2016)

Mr C D Kekana (ANC) to ask the Minister of Higher Education and Training:

What progress has been made with regard to the development of infrastructure and maintenance plans for the community education and training colleges?

NO1857E

REPLY:

The Department identified nine buildings, one in each province, to host the newly established Community Education and Training (CET) Colleges. These buildings are the management and administration hubs for Community Learning Centres, and are indicated below. Lease agreements have been finalised with the hosting institutions, i.e. faith-based organisations, non-profit organisations, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges and universities.

The Department also conducted a needs analysis to determine the nature of renovations to be undertaken and identified the following:

  • Portioning of office space according to the approved office space;
  • Strengthening  of security;
  • Minor renovations (painting, replacements); and
  • Mechanical ventilation.

All nine CET Colleges have submitted their requirements for office furniture and the Department is in the process of finalising these deliveries.

The costs, as projected below, excludes Information Communication and Technology (ICT) infrastructure, which is still being processed.
