8. Mr P J Groenewald (FF Plus ) to ask the Minister of Police:

(1) (a) According to which criteria are legal costs of a certain person (name furnished) are being paid for by the State, (b) from which budget vote it is being paid and (c) in accordance with which (i) legislation and (ii) relevant sections of the so-called legislation these legal costs are being paid;

(2) whether he will make a statement on the matter?

REPLY:

SEQ CHAPTER \h \r 1(1) (a) ( c) (i) and (ii) The South African Police Service referred an application by a certain person for legal representation to the State Attorney who considered the application and decided to provide the necessary legal representation in terms of section 3 of the State Attorney's Act, 1957 (Act No. 56 of 1957).

(b) Expenses vest against the Budget Vote of Police, as the State Attorney is reimbursed.

(2) No.

9. Mr PJ Groenewald (FF Plus ) to ask the Minister of Police:

(1) Whether any firearms and/or ammunition has gone missing at any police station in the Ulundi area in (a) 2007, (b) 2008 and (c) 2009; if so, (i) at which police station, (ii)(aa) what type and (bb) how many of each type of firearm and/or ammunition and (iii) what was the reason for the loss in each year;

(2) whether any firearms and/or ammunition has gone missing at any police station in the Ulundi area in (a) 2007, (b) 2008 and (c) 2009; if so, (i) at which storeroom/ place of safety, (ii)(aa) what type and (bb) how many of each type of firearm and/or ammunition and (iii) what was the reason for the loss in each year?

REPLY:

I have instructed that there be a full audit into the firearms and ammunition management in the Ulundi area. Once this audit has been completed I will report on the matter
