REPORT OF THE PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATIONS ON THE FILLING OF A
VACANCY ON THE MEDIA DEVELOPMENT AND DIVERSITY AGENCY (MDDA) BOARD DATED, 18
NOVEMBER 2014
The Portfolio Committee on Communications, having
considered the letter by the President requesting the
National Assembly to commence with the process of recommending, in accordance
with the principles set out in section 4(1)(b) of the Media
Development and Diversity Act, a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy caused
by the expiry of the term of office of Ms Nothando Migogo on 31 December 2013, reports as follows:
The Committee received 21 nominations of which only one
could not meet the requirement due to insufficient documentation. 20
nominations were considered.
On 28 October 2014, the Committee adopted the
following names as the subcommittee to shortlist and appoint: (1) Hon JC Moloi-Moropa (Chairperson and ANC
member); (2) Hon G Davis (DA); (3) Hon M Ndlozi
(EFF); (4) Hon ML Kalako (ANC); (5) Hon M Tseli (ANC), (6) Hon N Ndongeni
(ANC), and (7) Hon W Madisha (COPE).
On 11 November 2014, the subcommittee recommended to
the Portfolio Committee that the following five candidates be shortlisted: (1) Ms
Palesa Kadi; (2) Ms Crystal Orderson;
(3) Ms Louise Vale; (4) Adv Lufuno Tokyo Nevondwe and
(5) Mr Yengwayo Kutta. The
names were accordingly publicised in compliance to section 4(1)(b)(iii) of the MDDA Act.
Subsequently, Hon Davis was replaced by Hon van Dyk
while Hon Ndlozi apologized and could not be
available for interviews.
Interviews were conducted on Monday, 17 November 2014.
The subcommittee unanimously recommended to the Portfolio Committee that Ms Lousie Vale be appointed to the MDDA Board.
After the adoption of this report by the Portfolio
Committee, the report is submitted to the National Assembly recommending that
Ms Louise Vale be appointed to the MDDA Board.
