Report of the Portfolio Committee on Communications on the filling of a
vacancy on the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Board, dated 11
March 2014
The Portfolio Committee on Communications, having
considered the request by the President of the Republic to the National
Assembly to recommend a candidate, in accordance
with the provisions of the Broadcasting Act, 1999 (Act No 4 of 1999), to fill
the vacancy for the unexpired portion of the period for which the vacating
member had been appointed, reports as follows:
The Committee invited the public to nominate a person
for consideration and recommendation to the President for appointment to the
Board by means of advertisements in the print media.
The Committee received 11 nominations and subsequently
shortlisted the following five candidates: (i) Ms Leah Thabisile
Khumalo; (ii) Ms Vuyelwa Qinga-Vika; (iii) Mr Chose Andrew Kenilworth Choeu; (iv) Ms Ntombenhle Khathwane and (v) Mr Rammutlana Boelie Sekgala.
The above-mentioned candidates were interviewed in an
open meeting at Parliament on 4 March 2014.
The Committee deliberated and recommends that Ms Leah Thabisile Khumalo be appointed to
fill a vacancy in the SABC Board.
