Nolutshungu, Ms N to ask the Minister of Health

(1)Did he instruct the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) to embark on a recruitment process for the positions of (a) the Registrar and (b) Chief Operating Officer of the HPCSA; if not, what is the position in this regard; if so, (i) when did the Council start the recruitment and (ii) when was the process finalised; (2) did the Council recommend any person for appointment; if so (a) who was recommended and (b) why was the person recommended by the Council not appointed? NW1394E

Reply:

(1) (a) (i) Yes, the recruitment process and the advert was submitted to me as the Minister for approval in January 2016;

(ii) The first process commenced in January 2017 and was concluded in December 2017.

(b) No, in line with the Turn Around Strategy of Council and the development of the new business model and organisational structure, this position was not advertised.

(2) (a) The Council was not able to make any recommendation on the first recruitment process. The detailed report was submitted to me on 18 December 2017;

(b) Having considered the Report, I advised Council to follow a headhunting process. The Headhunting process has commenced and is at shortlisting stage.
