Malema, Mr J to ask the President of the Republic
Whether he intends appointing Mr Tony Leon as the Ambassador to represent the Republic in the United States of America (USA); if not, (a) who is he considering as a suitable replacement for the former Ambassador to the USA, Mr Ebrahim Rasool, and (b) by what date will he announce the name of the new Ambassador to the USA; if so, what are the relevant details?
Reply:
In exercising this responsibility, I am guided by Section 84(2)(i) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, which confers on the President the power to appoint ambassadors, plenipotentiaries, and diplomatic and consular representatives. I will make an announcement on the new Ambassador to the USA at the appropriate time.
