Buthelezi, Mr NZ to ask the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs

What specific commitments and/or resolutions have been made during the National Convention of Khoisan Leaders to address the longstanding concerns of the Khoisan communities?

Reply:

The Ministry convened a three-day all-inclusive convention with the Khoi-San community from February 14 to 16, 2025, at the Birchwood Conference Centre in Kempton Park. This convention followed prior discussions held with Khoi-San representatives in December 2024 and January 2025, during which it was agreed to organise a further meeting to engage in comprehensive deliberations regarding Khoi-San matters.

As a result of the convention, it was resolved to establish a “National Khoi and San Interim Consultative Forum.” Leaders from each group have been requested to submit five names to be included in this interim structure. Once the names have been received, the Department will facilitate an initial meeting where the newly established forum will develop Terms of Reference and outline how the Khoi-San community will interface with the government. The Department is currently receiving names of individuals who will serve as members of the interim structure.
