Pambo, Mr V to ask the Minister of Finance

Whether, since the announcement of an $8,5 billion grant made available to the Republic by the United States (US), Britain, France, Germany and the European Union towards transition from fossil fuels to clean energy sources, the money was ever made available to the Republic; if not, what is the position in this regard; if so, what exactly has it been used for?

Reply:

The International Partners Group members pledged to support South Africa with financial resources amounting to USD 8.5 billion over five years (2023 to 2027). These resources are in the form of grants, technical assistance and concessional loans. The National Treasury has taken up the support in the form of loans. France and Germany have each extended €300 million in loans to South Africa. The grant and technical support will be deployed across government, in line with the JET Implementation Plan 2023-2027, approved by Cabinet in November 2023.
