Kobe, Ms MP to ask the Minister of Police
What is the status of the SA Police Service’s investigations into allegations of corruption against officials of respective government institutions, implicated third parties and other persons (details furnished) in respect of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme?
Reply:
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) received a complaint from the Finance Section, within the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), relating to 61 students, across eight provinces, whose funds were withdrawn from their student accounts, without their knowledge, during the period from 2018 to 2022. The amount they lost from their accounts ranges between R1 200 and R5 000, per student.
The matter is under investigation by the DPCI and to date, 86 witness statements have been obtained as part of ongoing investigations by the Directorate.
