Lorimer, Mr JR to ask the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy
Whether, considering the ineffectiveness of the current SA Mineral Resources Administration (SAMRAD) system in providing up to date information on South Africa’s mining and prospecting rights, his department has ever considered discontinuing the SAMRAD system and replacing it with a Cadastre system; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details? Reply:
The Department acknowledges that the current SAMRAD system has had some challenges and requires an overhaul. We have begun a process of procuring a Mining Cadastral System to ensure that there is a complete effective system in place.
