Waters, Mr M to ask the Minister of Transport

Whether the bridge structure on the corner of the R25 and M39 situated within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council has been inspected recently; if not, (a) on what date will an inspection be conducted and (b) how often should infrastructure be inspected as provided for by his department’s policy; if so, (i) on what date, (ii) by whom was it inspected and (iii) what were the findings and recommendations of the report?

Reply:

Yes, the bridge structure on the corner of the R25 and M39 situated within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council has been inspected recently;

(a) The inspection is conducted on a going basis

(b) The department’s policy provides that infrastructure be inspected periodically

(i) 6 June 2016,

ii) Mr K Dahlgren from JG Afrika; and

(iii) Erosion at the embankment require backfilling, concrete at the abutments need to be replaced, interlocking paving blocks need to be reinstated, missing sidewalk kerbs need to be replaced, spalling on the parapets to be repaired.
