MINUTES
Here follows the official minutes of the Select Committee on Security and Justice as provided by the committee secretary, Ms P. Nonyukela.

The Chairperson, Mr Moosa, welcomed everybody.

Mr Paxton (Director of Legal Services, Department of Correctional Services) briefed the Committee on the Correctional Services Bill [B65B-98].

Mr Du Plessis (Director of South African Police Services) briefed the Committee on the South African Police Services Amendment Bill (B39B-98]. Adv. Joubert (Director of Department of Safety and Security) informed the Committee that the South African Police Services Second Amendment Bill [B69-98] had been rejected in the National Assembly an the grounds that it was not the right Bill to address employment.

Mr Moosa raised the fact that the amendments proposed by the Committee on the Magistrates' Courts Amendment Bill [B33-98] be withdrawn. Agreed to.

The Committee then voted to withdraw the amendments on the Magistrates' Courts Amendment Bill [B33-98] and passed the Bill without amendments

The Committee was then briefed on the Defence Special Tribunal Bill [B100-98] by Mr J Ratebe (Director of Legal Services, Department of Defence).

The meeting adjourned at 16:00 until Wednesday, 16 September 1998.
