Media Development & Diversity Agency Board: short-listing of candidates for interviews

Meeting report

The Secretary noted that in the absence of the Committee Chairperson, an acting Chairperson had to be elected. Mr K Khumalo was elected as acting Chairperson.

The Acting Chairperson suggested that each of the parties give their shortlist of candidates for the Media Development and Diversity Agency board to fill the two vacancies.

Ms D Smuts (DA) replied that the shortlist of candidates for the Democratic Alliance (DA) was: Neville Woudberg, Endrew Fasedemi, Tanya Bosch, Mazibuko Jara, Vanessa Perumal , Shiela Mmusi, Adam Haupt and Arstides Seirlig. She suggested that the list could be made shorter.

The Acting Chairperson noted that there were a few late applicants listed in the document. However, because there were a few administrative errors such as a name being listed in the late nominations and the ordinary nominations, he suggested that they accept all the nominations.

Ms L Yengeni (ANC) suggested that they consider all the candidates on the list.

Ms M Morutoa (ANC) agreed.

The Acting Chairperson said that they would consider all the candidates.

Ms S Vos (IFP) replied that the IFP’s shortlisted candidates were: Neville Woudberg, Sello Molefe, Endrew Fasedemi, Tanya Bosch, Vanessa Perumal, Sheila Mmusi and Adam Haupt.

Mr M Kholwane (ANC) gave the ANC shortlisted candidates, Sello Molefe, Ebrahim Patel, Mazibuko Jara, Tanya Bosch, Sheila Mmusi, Phumalele Ntombela-Nzimande, Katherine Skinner and Criselda Kananda.

The Acting Chairperson then moved on to the next phase. He noted the commonality of Tanya Bosch, Sheila Mmusi. He suggested that the names that the political parties did not feel strongly about should be dropped.

The Democratic Alliance and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) agreed to drop Endrew Fasedemi, Ebrahim Patel and Aristides Seirlis from their candidate list.

The Acting Chairperson announced that the final candidates were: Neville Woudberg, Sello Molefe, Tanya Bosch, Mazibuko Jara, Sheila Mmusi, Phumalele Ntombela-Nzimande, Katherine Skinner and Criselda Kananda   would be called for interviews.

The Acting Chairperson adjourned the meeting.
