HIV/AIDS POLICY: BRIEFING BY DEPARTMENT [CANCELLED]
Chairperson: Mr. Mashimbye (ANC)
The Chairperson expressed his consternation that not any representatives of the Department of Defence, including the Deputy Minister who was to appear, nor the Surgeon General, were present to make the scheduled presentation, nor had any word been received explaining their absence.
Mr. Smit (NNP) noted that this was part of a pattern of such conduct by the Department, which was tantamount to "contempt of Parliament". Mr. Ndlovu (IFP) agreed and suggested that a strong letter be written to the Department after ascertaining the reasons for the non-appearance.
The Chair said that he would deal with the Minister directly, as well as writing to the Department to register his displeasure at this objectionable pattern of behaviour. He also urged members to individually write to the Department concerning this matter. The meeting was then adjourned.
