Documents handed out
Commission on Gender Equality Act No 39 of 1996
Nomination list for the vacancies on the Commission on Gender Equality

SUMMARY
The committee started the process of shortlisting candidates for the Commission on Gender Equality. No opposition parties were present but it was decided that the process would continue. Some members did not receive all the CVs that were submitted to the Department of Justice. Five CVs of candidates that were short listed were not forwarded to the committee and would only be considered once the members had received them. A preliminary list was drawn and the final decision would be made on 5 September.

MINUTES
The Chairperson advised members that the Committee had not received all the CVs that were submitted to the Department of Justice. Five CVs were still outstanding. She further advised that Ms S Rajbally (MF) was not able to be present but had told the Chairperson that she would be happy to concur with whatever candidates were short listed.

No other opposition party members were present. The Chairperson decided to continue the process of short-listing candidates as there was little time to make appointments for interviews. A date had also been set for the committee to table a report in parliament

Ms M Morutoa (ANC) commented that she did not receive a copy of the Act and the Advertisement. She had also not received all the CVs.

The Chairperson replied that all the CVs were distributed to members.

Mr L Mzimande (ANC) said that it appeared that Mr M Williams had nominated himself, and was not nominated by someone in his province. He suggested that the Committee must check the criteria in the advertisement before deciding on the short list.

The Chairperson told members that once they received the outstanding CVs the list of candidates selected in the preliminary round might change. The committee would meet on Tuesday 5th September to finalize the list. However, as a preliminary short list the following candidates were selected:

Ms T S Masilela
