MINUTES
Ben Kali opened the meeting and explained the purpose and procedure. He called for nominations for Chairpersonship. Ms Morutoa nominated Ms P Tshwete. There being no further nominations or contestation, Ms Tshwete was therefore duly elected and took the chair, thanked Members for the confidence they showed by nominating her, and proceeded with the day's business.

Regarding the advert for the posts of Commissioners, the following questions surfaced:

• Until when should the advert run?
• Should it be for all candidates since their terms are coming to an end soon?
• Should advertising be postponed until after May for all posts to curb costs?
• Should there be an advert for a one-year term ending in September 2007 and
  then advertise for all candidates?

The Committee decided to invite a representative from the Department of Justice to give a briefing to shed some light on certain matters pertaining to the appointment of commissioners.
