MINUTES
1 Welcome and opening remarks


The Chairperson welcomed all present and thanked the Deputy Minister for meeting the Committee at short notice.


2. 16 Days of Activism to end Violence Against Women and Children

The Deputy Minister briefed the Committee about the Manual/Toolkit document for the campaign.

The Committee raised concerns whether:
rural and poor people would benefit from the Toolkit/Manual and the campaign
the campaign made any impact

The Committee proposed:
That the campaign should be a 365 days of No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign, i.e. that the campaign should not only take place during December, but throughout the year.
The Committee proposed linking the Moral Regeneration Programme with the No Violence against Women Campaign
Committee Members must drive the campaign in their constituencies.
The Committee should schedule debates on the Men's Dialogue and the outcome of the16 Days of Activism on No Violence against Women and what was done within the 16 days.


The Committee adjourned at 14h10 until 11 November 2005
