NATIONAL FOREST AND FIRE LAWS AMENDMENT BILL: ADOPTION

SUMMARY
Each province agreed to accept the National Forest and Fire Laws Amendment Bill in its entirety with the exception of the rejection of Clause 13 (the Amendment of section 5 of Act 101 of 1998) and the omission of one line from the long title ("to clarify the effect of agreements entered into by Safcol on the ownership of State land"). The delegate from the Eastern Cape did ask that the Bill be explicit as to how municipalities are going to be compensated in the event that their services are utilised. Further deliberation deemed this stipulation unnecessary. The Bill was passed with amendments.
