SUMMARY
The Committee elected its new chairperson, Mr Peter Mokaba, and discussed an interim programme.

MINUTES
The Speaker highlighted the matters on the agenda among which was the election of a Committee chairperson. Mr Landers (ANC) nominated Mr Peter Mokaba (ANC). There were no other nominations and Mr Mokaba was elected chairperson.

Mr Mokaba (Chairperson) thanked the Committee. He said that the committee may not be able to finish its work this year if there are attendance problems. He appealed to members to iron out this issue so that the committee could finish its work in good time.

Ms N Pandor (NCOP Chairperson) asked if she could be replaced in view of her work commitments as NCOP Chairperson.

The Chair replied that that will be done. Another meeting would be held the following week to consider a committee programme and time frames for public hearings as there were insufficient members present. He requested that members read all the documents that had been handed out before the next meeting.

Mr Cassim (IFP) noted that most of the members are new to the committee and asked that an executive summary be prepared for members.

As an interim arrangement, meetings will be held on Wednesday afternoons.

The meeting was adjourned.
