ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON

MINUTES
The committee secretary for housing, Mr Mpolokeng Makhari opened the meeting. He said the meeting was called in terms of Rule 129 of The National Assembly, which provides for an election of chairperson. The floor was opened for nominations for chairperson of the Housing Portfolio Committee.

Ms W Skosana of the ANC nominated Ms N Hangana of the ANC. As there were no other nominations, and Ms Hangana was elected chairperson of the committee. The newly elected chairperson, thanked the committee for their confidence in her, and welcomed all the new members. She requested co-operation from the committee members, and said that she does not see them as members of different parties, but rather as members of this committee.

Ms Hangana said that she would be working on a programme, to enable committee members to identify and diarise tasks. The chairperson added that the committee’s first priority would be the reintroduction of the Housing Rental Bill. An IFP committee member requested copies of the Housing Rental Bill before the next meeting. The chairperson asked the committee to meet next Wednesday. As there were no further questions, the meeting was adjourned.
