SUMMARY
The Committee adopted the Committee Report on the deployment of the South African National Defence Force to areas outside the borders of the country based on the notification letters from the President’s Office. The countires were Burundi, Mozambique, Sudan, Botswana, Cote D" lvoire, Democratic Republic of Congo. Substantive issues would be dealt with next year.

MINUTES
The Committee was concerned about the reimbursement of funds from the United Nations for the deployment of the South African National Defence Force as a peace-keeping force in various parts of Africa. The Chairperson said the cost of deployment had to be reimbursed by the UN. The report was to provide clarity and substantive issues would be dealt with in 2006.

Mr V Ndlovu (IFP) said that during the period that the Joint Committee had not been established, the Portfolio Committee had handled Joint Committee matters. The Committee was newly established and matters that had been referred to it now would be dealt with in 2006.

The Chairperson said issues that required further information would be addressed with the Portfolio Committee and raised with the Department.

The Committee Report was adopted.

The meeting was adjourned.
