MINUTES
The Chairperson invited new members to introduce themselves to the Committee.

Committee minutes
The Committee adopted the minutes of previous meetings, from 7 June 2005 to 19 September 2005 after making corrections and amendments where necessary. The Committee was concerned about the technical errors that appeared in the minutes. The Committee welcomed the Chairperson’s proposal that one member of the committee be responsible for checking and correcting errors before the meeting.

Mr K Moonsamy (ANC) suggested that minutes should not quote verbatim in case they did not capture the actual opinions of members.

Committee Reports
The Committee postponed adopting the Committee Report on the Hearings on the Department Annual Report as it was felt that twelve pages was too long for the report. The Committee adopted the Committee Reports on their study tours to Pretoria, Robben Island and Northern Cape after making certain changes.

Other Committee business
The Chairperson reported on the preview he had attended on the progress made by the National Film and Video Foundation regarding a new awards ceremony for national film and television stars. The award ceremony would be an annual event where people would submit nominations in three categories.

The Chairperson informed Members that Mr B Zulu (ANC) had published his book written in two languages, isiZulu and English about Zulu culture, Umongo KaZulu. All members were invited to attend the launch of the book on 16 November 2005. The Chairperson congratulated Mr Zulu and posed a challenge to other members to also write which would show the rest of the community that Members of Parliament could also be great writers.

The Chair invited members to start brainstorming ideas for the Committee's 2006 Programme.

The meeting was adjourned.
