SUMMARY
The Chairperson read through amendments to the Dental Technicians Act, 1979. The Committee voted unanimously passed all of the amendments without further discussion.

MINUTES
The Chairperson read each of the amendments to the Dental Technicians Act, 1979:

Amendment of Section 1 of Act 19 of 1979, as amended by Section 1 of act 43 of 1997, inserted a definition of “informally trained person”.

Insertion of Section 23A in Act 19 of 1979 included the means by which an informally trained person could be registered as a dental technician.

Amendment of Section 32 of Act 19 of 1979, as amended by Section 25 of Act 43 of 1997, concerned a word substitution.

Amendment of Section 32A of Act 19 of 1979, as inserted by Section 26 of Act 43 of 1997, concerned various word substitutions.

Amendment of Section 50 of Act 19 of 1979, as amended by Section 34 of Act 43 of 1997, inserted a subsection dealing with the Minister’s responsibility to publish the draft regulation and the conditions under which the terms set out in the subsection do not apply.

The section entitled “Short Title and Commencement” dealt with renaming the Act and enactment.

The Chairperson announced a short recess until enough Members were present to constitute a quorum. When this was achieved, he went through the Bill again, asking if Members had any comments on Clause 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. None of the Members chose to comment on any of the clauses. The Bill was then voted on and passed unanimously.
