Draft Committee Report on the Public Service Commission Reports
Mr V Galeka (Researcher: Parliament’s Research Unit) briefed Members on the Draft Committee Report on the Public Service Commission Reports presented to the Committee in 2003 and 2004. The first report was an investigation into the management of discipline in the public service. The second was a report on remunerative work outside the public service (the result of an investigation undertaken in the Gauteng Provincial Health sector), and the third was a report on the management of the subsidised motor transport scheme.

Mr Galeka discussed the Committee’s recommendations. On the report on the investigation into the management of discipline in the public service, the Committee had felt that the PSC recommendations should be "acceded to and that their implementation should be monitored and evaluated". On the report on remunerative work outside the public service, the Committee noted that the recommendations in the PSC report should be "acceded to". On the PSC report on the management of the subsidised motor transport scheme, the Committee suggested that "the recommendations contained in the report should be acceded to and that compliance with the recommendations be monitored rigorously".

Mr M Sikakane (ANC) moved for the adoption of the Draft Committee Report and this was seconded by Mr N Gcwabaza (ANC). The Draft Committee Report was adopted.

The meeting was adjourned.
